What are the Three Biggest Lies?

May 9, 2020

Not ranked in any order…

#1 – There are many ways to God/Heaven.  Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through me.”  (John 14)  People, in their great “wisdom” and personal enlightenment, will try to convince you that there are many ways, but it’s not true.  Scripture also says “Salvation is found in no one else for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.”  (Acts 4)

#2 – All you have to do is believe in God.  Scripture does say that, but it also says “Even the demons believe, and shutter.”  (James 2)  Jesus said, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength…this is the first and greatest commandment.”  (Matthew 22)  “Believing” in the one, true GOD demands total commitment…you can’t actually “believe” in God without Him becoming your Lord.

#3 – I’m a good person.  You may be, relatively speaking.  But Jesus says, “There is only One who is good”  (Matthew 19)  He’s referring to God, and pointing out that we’re not.  Scripture also says, “All of us have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”  (Romans 3)  Is “I was a good person” going to be your “boast” when you stand before God (if you can stand)?  Romans 3 also says, “Where then is [your] boasting?”  You may indeed be better than most people, but it’s not “good” — not by what’s required by scripture/law.  Romans 3 also states that the law (Scripture/Canon/Standard) only “makes us conscious of our sin.  No one will be declared right/good by it.”  Scripture also says we know exactly where we stand (Romans 2), and that’s true.  The good news (Romans 3)–God paid our penalty through His Son, Jesus Christ (see #1).

Luckily, the same passage also explains that “Now, apart from the law, the righteousness of God has been made known, to which the law and the prophets testify.  This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe.”

So, those are the three biggest lies.  The biggest truth in all the universe, in all history, is God made a way…Where we couldn’t.  “While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”  (Romans 5)
